Now that I have the answer though I can see how it works so I think if I came across another one I'd be better able to solve another one like it on my own.

Re: #011 - Connections (red noughts and crosses)

This one was a real dog! Far too hard to be a red, particularly with the ease of some oranges.

This is identical to a puzzle on the Crystal Maze (being shown weekdays on FTN), but CM used letters rather than numbers. Only one of the teams realised the key to solving it, but the person actually doing the puzzle took it as more of an idle suggestion and re-arranged the vital letters, making it impossible. I haven't seen anybody actually complete it yet!

nficcial, one of the numbers has already been placed on the card for you. From looking at your attempted solve, it looks like you've moved it. If you've entered your answer in the format you've put it in in your post, it will come back incorrect - try again, making sure you've got the 5 in the correct position relative to the other boxes.

Your answer should take the format of

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

xx
xxxx
x5

so try and make your answer fit around that format.

a common difficulty is fitting these all in.
(I remember a teamwork challenge on the isle of to do this puzzle...)

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Work straight onto the answer page is my suggestion, and as Agent Lex said:

Starting point:

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

The two numbers in the middle have the most connections, so they have to be the ones with the least consecutive numbers.

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

So that's 1 and 8 in the middle. Then just fit the numbers around that, eg 1 higher that side. another higher the other and so on

hope i was helpful :-)
